## Our verdict

Snagit is a screenshot tool first and a screen recorder second. It captures regions, windows and scrolling pages, marks them up with arrows and callouts, and can turn a series of clicks into a step-by-step guide. Its recorder handles screen, webcam, microphone and system audio up to 4K with no time limit, and one click puts the video on Screencast with a link.

At $39 a year it's cheap for what it does, and users on G2 and Capterra rate it highly for ease of use. The catch is video editing: you can trim, cut sections out and merge clips, but nothing more. There's also no free plan, only a 15-day trial.

If video is your main output, [Camtasia](/reviews/camtasia/) adds a full multi-track editor, and every Camtasia plan includes Snagit. If you mostly send quick video messages, compare it with [Loom](/reviews/loom/).
