What we like

  • Share link with view tracking; viewers can watch without signing in if you allow it
  • Runs in Chrome on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook
  • Drawing tools and mouse emphasis on every plan

What to watch

  • Free plan has a watermark and a 10-video limit
  • Trimming, text and MP4 download need the Pro plan
  • No computer audio in full screen recordings on a Mac

Best for: You teach or train in Chrome and want to send a link and see who watched.

Our verdict

Screencastify is at its best when you work in Chrome and share with a class or team. You copy a link, choose whether viewers sign in, and see who watched. It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, but not on phones.

The free plan is tight: 10 videos, 30 minutes each, with a watermark. Starter removes those limits for $84 a year, but trimming, text, captions and MP4 download only come with Pro at $120 a year. On a Mac, full screen recordings can’t capture computer audio.

If you want a cheaper plan that includes editing, compare it with ScreenPal. For quick work messages outside the classroom, compare it with Loom.
