## Our verdict

Descript is a video editor first. You edit by deleting words from the transcript, and you also get multitrack sequences, captions and animation. Its desktop screen recorder captures your screen, camera and computer audio, and with Quick Share on, the link is ready when you stop.

The free plan is a trial run. You get 60 media minutes a month, and exports are 720p with a watermark. Hobbyist costs $192 a year and gives you 10 hours a month at 1080p without the watermark. Every minute you record or upload counts against that allowance.

If you mostly send quick updates and want more free recording, [Loom](/reviews/loom/) or [Cap](/reviews/cap/) fit better. For a free editor with no watermark, try [Clipchamp](/reviews/clipchamp/). If you use Linux or a Chromebook, Descript doesn't support them; [VEED](/reviews/veed/) runs in the browser on both.
