Every Chromebook has a built-in screen recorder in its Screen capture tool. It records the full screen, a window or an area, with device audio, microphone and front camera.

## At a glance

- Score: built into the operating system, not scored
- Best for: You're on a Chromebook and want a recording with your camera and voice, with nothing to install.
- Works on: Browser
- Free recording: No documented limit
- Watermark when free: No
- Price: Free (Comes with ChromeOS. Facts from Chromebook Help, 6 Oct 2026.)
- Made by: Google (https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/10474268)
- Last checked: October 2026

## What we like

- Records full screen, a window or a selected area
- Device audio, microphone or both
- Front camera on while recording

## What to watch

- Video saves as .webm
- No editing documented
- GIF recordings don't capture audio or camera

## Our verdict

The ChromeOS screen recorder covers more than most built-in tools. It records the full screen, a window or an area, with device audio, your microphone or both, and it can show your front camera while you record. Show clicks and keys helps in tutorials.

What it lacks is editing and cloud sharing. You get a .webm file in Downloads; Google documents no trim or other editing and no share link of its own.

If you need a link right after recording, use a recorder with a share link such as [Loom](/reviews/loom/), [Screencastify](/reviews/screencastify/) or [ScreenPal](/reviews/screenpal/). Check each app's review for whether it runs on a Chromebook.
