Apple released macOS 27 Golden Gate on 14 September 2026. In it, the built-in Screenshot tools can record system audio with a screen recording, and QuickTime Player's New Screen Recording opens those tools.

Apple released macOS 27 on 14 September 2026.[^newsroom] Apple's support page on recording the Mac screen says that "in macOS 27 Golden Gate or later" you can choose Include System Audio in the Screenshot app's options, alongside a microphone.[^record] On earlier macOS versions, Apple documents only a microphone for screen recordings.

QuickTime Player's File > New Screen Recording opens the same Screenshot tools in macOS 27, according to the QuickTime Player User Guide.[^qt] Recording a single window still needs macOS Tahoe 26 or later.[^record]

Recordings are still saved as .mov files, and neither tool has a webcam overlay or a share link. See our [macOS Screenshot](/reviews/macos-screenshot/) and [QuickTime Player](/reviews/quicktime/) reviews.
