macOS 27 Golden Gate lets Mac screen recordings include system audio
Apple released macOS 27 Golden Gate on 14 September 2026. In it, the built-in Screenshot tools can record system audio with a screen recording, and QuickTime Player's New Screen Recording opens those tools.
Apple released macOS 27 on 14 September 2026.1 Apple’s support page on recording the Mac screen says that “in macOS 27 Golden Gate or later” you can choose Include System Audio in the Screenshot app’s options, alongside a microphone.2 On earlier macOS versions, Apple documents only a microphone for screen recordings.
QuickTime Player’s File > New Screen Recording opens the same Screenshot tools in macOS 27, according to the QuickTime Player User Guide.3 Recording a single window still needs macOS Tahoe 26 or later.2
Recordings are still saved as .mov files, and neither tool has a webcam overlay or a share link. See our macOS Screenshot and QuickTime Player reviews.
